COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RACKS, WEARING APPAREL (SEMI-CONCEALED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim Federal Specification AA-R-002001.
Salient Characteristics:
These characteristics concisely describe the essential physical and functional/performance characteristics of the commercially available item.
Design. Rack with contemporary style face panel to ceonceal wearing apparel, KD construction, heavy duty office use.
Components. Face panel, leg(s), hat shelf, boot shelf, hanger rod, assembly hardware and mounting hardware.
Face panel. Self-edged laminated plastic with backing sheet, walnut grain per GSA Standard Sample No. FSS-L-01002. Alternatively, the manufacturer may provide his equivalent commercial walnut grain plastic laminate subject to contracting officer approval. Mounting and assembly holes pre-drilled, wall anchors designed for use on all types of interior walls. Panel minimum size 29 7/8” W x 71 7/8” H x 3/4 “ thick.
Leg(s). One inch square tubing with satin chrome plating or black enamel finish extending 6” minimum below face panel. Leg(s) shall have glides.
Hat and boot shelf. Minimum 20 gage steel with baked enamel finish. Minimum size 25” W x 10” D.
Hanger rod. Minimum 16 gage one inch 0.D steel tubing with chrome plating finish. Usable hanger space 10” minimum.
Assembly. Racks shall assemble with minimum effort, be in proper alignment and provide adequate space to store boots and long overcoats. Assembly and mounting instructions shall be provided.
Identification label. The label shall have the contractor’s name or trademarks, contract number, NSN (if specified), month and year of manufacture legibly marked with permanent dark ink. The label shall be affixed to the back of the face panel and shall not be removable by hand without defacement after being affixed for 4 hours.
Workmanship. Edges and corners shall be eased. Metal shall be free of sharp edges and burrs to prevent injury to personnel or damage to their clothing. Baked enamel finish shall be smooth without runs, grit, wrinkles, tackiness or separation of color. Chromium plating shall be free of pits, blisters, stains, and brush or grind marks.
