2.1 Design and Construction. The type I and type III, sizes 1 and 2 shall consist of framing and shelves, insulation, outer shell, liner or panels, drain and cart bumpers, Type III, size 1 and 2 shall consist of framing and shelves insulation, outer shells, liner or panels, drain, canopy top, fluorescent lights, mirror and cart bumpers. Accessories to be supplied with the unit shall include water spray attachment, adjustable wire shelves or racks, bag racks, price tag molding, and splash guard (kick plate). The unit shall be provided with a minimum 1-inch drain. All units shall be provided with joiner kits and the necessary trim. Produce dividers shall be provided for each lineal foot. Cases to be joined together shall be marked and furnished with complete assembly components, drawings and installation instructions.
2.1.1 Framing and shelves. The framing members shall form a rigid structure capable of supporting loaded wire shelves and the entire unit during handling and shipment. The framing members shall be aluminum stainless steel or otherwise finished to prevent corrosion. The wire shelves shall be fabricated from stainless steel or from steel electro-zinc plated or electroless nickel plated with a protective coating.
2.1.2 Insulation expanded. The insulation shall be expanded polystyrene, or expanded polyurethane having a K factor determined by using a 75OF mean temperature, expressed in British thermal units (BTU) per hour per degree F temperature difference per inch of thickness. All space between the outer shell and inner shell shall be filled with insulation. Loose fill type insulation shall not be acceptable. The insulation shall be rigid as specified in 2.1.3 or foamed in place as specified 2.1.4. The density of the expanded insulation shall be determined by cutting a 6 inch cube (1/8 of a cubic foot), weighing the cube, and multiplying the weight by 8. When foamed in place insulation is used the expanded foam shall be tested for conformance to the density requirement prior to beginning each day’s productions of cases.
2.1.3 Insulator rigid. Rigid insulation shall be pre-expanded polyurethane or pre-expanded polystyrene having a manufacturer’s commercial K factor of not more than 0.15 for polyurethane and 0.25 for polystyrene and a minimum core density of 1.8 pounds per cubic foot.
2.1.4 Insulation foamed in place. Foamed in place insulation shall be polyurethane foam having a manufacturer’s commercial rated K factor of not more than 0.15. The foam shall have a density of not less than 1.7 pounds per cubic foam when frothed and 1.9 pounds per cubic foot when poured.
2.1.5 Outer shell. The front, top and ends of the outer shell of the case shall be enameling iron, aluminum or carbon steel. The bottom of the case shall be steel, aluminum or galvanized steel. The rear of the case shall be enameled iron, aluminum carbon steel or galvanized steel.
2.1.6 Liner or panels. The inner liner or the insulated panels of the case shall be aluminum alloy, fiberglass or galvanized steel. Seams shall be smooth so that the interior can be kept clear and sanitary. Tapping plates and structural reinforcement (when required), shall be secured to the insulation side of the inner liner to provide support for brackets, shelves or other items to be fastened to, supported by, or hung on the exposed side of the inner liner.
